Spartan Schools
Sparta had a completely different idea for their education system, the purpose was to spew out soldiers quickly, and so it delivered, from the information we have we know that both boys and girls went through a very similar system (a brotherhood, or a sisterhood), but we’re not sure if the Spartans gave the boys, or girls a handicap compared to the other gender, but what we do know school in Sparta was tough. Spartan children started school at ages 6, or 7, at the school they took part in grueling physical exercises, also reading, and writing was a second priority, boys learn skills they needed to survive as a soldier, how to survive in the woods, how to kill a soldier as quickly as possible, formations, etc., the boys were not given anything, so they were encouraged to steal, and lie, but if they got caught they would receive severe punishment. Girls had a pretty similar school system except it included gymnastics, the people of Sparta believed that a healthy woman would produce a healthy baby, Spartan women were not required to join the army, but some did and had outstanding combat skills. The most stressful time of a Spartans life (both boys, and girls) was at 18 where they were required to take a test, the test challenged their leadership skills, physical ability, and military skill, the test determined the rest of their life if they succeeded the men would go to the army until 60, and the woman would be assigned a husband, but if they failed they would become a periodios, a person who had no voting rights, was looked down upon, and was not considered a true citizen of Sparta.
