Culture

The Greeks were quite different from us in many different ways, one of those ways being the cultural customs, such as the clothes they wore, the food they ate, the beliefs they had and their view on rights and freedoms. Greek clothing was often quite simple usually consisting of a  big square piece of cloth held together with pins, the men's were very simple with only pins at the shoulders and a belt around the waist, women had slightly more complicated clothes with pins in many different locations. The Greeks usually went barefoot due to the hot climate in which they lived in, but if the occasion came that they needed to wear something to protect their feet, they would grab a pair of leather sandals or boots. Another aspect that’s different from today was the view on women from the Athenian man's perspective, the reason why we only having writings and media from Ancient Athens is written by men (With a few exceptions) is because in Athens women didn’t know how to write or read (because they we’re not taught), most of writings we have disregard women as much, much lower than men. Although in Sparta, women were treated much better than in Athens, although not completely equal they still got quite a few benefits over the Athenian women, unlike Athenian women who were often secluded to one room, the women of Sparta got to take care and wander around the house, they also received education and had opportunities to own some land if they were wealthy. Greeks had 3/4 meals a day, for breakfast they often had barley bread with olives, or figs, and occasionally they ate pancakes called tiganites, then they had lunch which was pretty similar and was eaten quickly, but in the end of the day the Greeks had a grand meal, it had meat, soup, herbs, fish, salads, lentils, sausages, and all that good stuff, and sometimes they would take a light meal in the late afternoon.
